After Black Mountain College closed in 1957, various individuals expressed interest in writing about the college. Intially, M.C. Richards wrote to John Rice and others to express interest in writing something herself, but was met with mixed responses. Rice and one of the college's co-founders and teachers, Theodore (Ted) Dreier, reflected on their Black Mountain College experiences and the idea of producing a written work. A few years later, Wesleyan University Press corresponded with Rice, and after his death, Mrs. Rice, about a possible book about the college's early years. Unfortunately, none of these ideas develop.
