Biographical Text
Professor Emeritus of Mathematical Science Ronald J. Ensey received his B.A. degree in mathematics in 1960 from Hardin Simmons University in Abilene, Texas. He received his M.S. degree (1962) and his Ph.D. degree (1966) in mathematics from New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Ensey worked at White Sands Missile Range from 1962 until 1964, before returning to graduate school to work on his doctorate. After receiving his Ph.D. degree, he was on the faculty of Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas, from 1966 through the spring of 1969. In June of 1969, he joined the Department of Mathematical Sciences at Appalachian State University and taught in that department until his July 1998 retirement. Dr. Ensey and his wife, Jane Anne, have been married for forty-five years and have two children, both graduates of Appalachian State. A daughter, Amy Leary, lives in Escondido, California, where she is employed by Wyndham Corporation. Another daughter, Anne Wagner, lives in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where she supervises student teachers in bilingual education programs for the University of New Mexico. Anne and her husband, Keith, have two children, Ana and Austin, both adopted from Guatemala. In early 2000, Dr. Ensey and his wife moved back to Las Cruces, and Ensey became a volunteer at Mesilla Valley Habitat for Humanity. In addition to serving as treasurer for the Habitat's board of directors, he also serves on the board of the Las Cruces Symphony Association. He and his wife enjoy the symphony, as well as many other activities. They travel and visit as often as possible with their children and grandchildren.
